05Grammar
POINT 01
(1) 我介绍一下儿
This means "Let me make a brief introduction." It is a set phrase used when introducing someone. "一下儿" follows a verb to indicate that the action is brief or casual.
POINT 02
(2) 你是—
This is a polite way of asking "Who are you?" (你是谁?). Because "你是谁?" can sound abrupt, Chinese speakers instead say "你是…" and trail off. The listener is then expected to state their name or identity.
POINT 03
(3) Attributive modifiers showing possession and belonging
"的" functions like "of" or "'s" in English, connecting a noun or pronoun to the noun it modifies. However, "的" is sometimes omitted when the relationship is close (family, friends, or affiliated organizations).
① Use "的" <to show ownership or affiliation>
- 我的名字、他的书
② Omit "的" <for family, close acquaintances, affiliated groups>
- 我妈妈、我朋友、我们公司
POINT 04
(4) Verbal predicate sentences
A sentence whose predicate is primarily a verb, describing an action or activity, is called a "verbal predicate sentence." A simple verbal predicate may consist of just the verb, but most verbs take an object (宾语).
Subject + Verb + Object
- 我去朋友家。
- 李兰在公司。
