05Practice

  1. Ask the student to read through the text once; correct any pronunciation errors.
  2. Ask the student if there is anything they did not understand, or have them translate the text (adjust the teaching method according to the student's level).
  3. The teacher and student take turns reading the dialogue in role, or do an imitation conversation exercise.
  4. Ask the student the questions in Section 3 and have them answer. In addition, the teacher may ask other questions according to the student's level.

06Translation

王力You sing really well — you have such a sweet voice. What is this song called?
李兰It's by Faye Wong, called "Wishing We Last Forever" (但愿人长久).
王力It really is beautiful — especially your high notes; they were perfect.
李兰Not at all. It's probably because I know that song so well that I didn't need to look at the lyrics — I could just focus on singing.
王力You're too modest! Hmm, I'd like to choose a song too — could you pass me the song catalog?
李兰Sure, here you go.
王力(Flipping through the catalog) There are quite a lot of songs here — they even have Japanese ones.
李兰I hear your Japanese is pretty good — how about singing a Japanese song?
王力All right, then I'll sing "Toilet no Kamisama (Washroom Deity)" — last year's top pick at the Kohaku Song Contest.
