Chinese Learning Materials

• “Conversational Chinese 301” is one of the most widely used Chinese textbooks in the world — the classic choice for beginner to elementary levels.
• “Shuo Hanyu (Speak Chinese)” is for learners who have completed “Conversational Chinese 301”, bridging the gap between 301 and the intermediate level.
• “Intermediate Spoken Chinese” and “Advanced Spoken Chinese” are the designated textbooks for NetChai's intermediate and advanced courses, and are easy to study with both in lessons and on your own.
• “Spoken Chinese Idiomatic Expressions Course” is a designated textbook for the advanced course, at the same level as or slightly more difficult than “Advanced Spoken Chinese”.
• “Business Spoken Chinese (Jingmao Hanyu Kouyu)” is the designated textbook for the business course. Please use it after completing at least “Conversational Chinese 301 (Vols. 1 & 2)”.

• The “Yuwen” series is the standard Chinese-language textbook (People's Education Press) used in many primary schools across China.
• Primary school grades 1-6 each have two volumes, junior high grades 7-9 each have two volumes, and senior high offers compulsory and elective-compulsory volumes.

• The first time you take a lesson with this textbook, your tutor will need time to prepare, so please book by the previous day if possible.

Hanyu Kouyu Sucheng (Short-Term Spoken Chinese) Series

• These are the textbooks known as the "Sucheng (Short-Term) Series." A long-established series with a solid reputation.

Fazhan Hanyu (Developing Chinese) Series

• A relatively new series. Excellent books, but the overall difficulty is high — even beginner-level explanations are mostly in Chinese, so they can be a hurdle for beginners.

Chenggong zhi Lu (Road to Success) Series

• Also used at language schools in China and carried by major bookstores. They build vocabulary and grammar through exercises rather than conversation, making them ideal for HSK and Chinese proficiency test prep.

Tuokou Shuo Hanyu (Speak Chinese Fluently) Series

• Intensive training in spoken expressions. For intermediate to advanced levels.

• A collection of mock exams for HSK test takers.
