- What do I need to get started?
- You need a computer with internet access, a microphone and speakers (or headphones), and Microsoft Teams installed.
A webcam lets the tutor see you, which greatly improves lessons. - What courses does NetChai offer?
- NetChai offers Introductory, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Free Talk courses to match your level.
Introductory through Advanced courses use commercial textbooks, purchased by the student.

For Free Talk, choose from: (1) NetChai's topic list, (2) online news articles, or (3) open conversation — whatever suits you and your tutor. - I've never studied spoken Chinese. Will I keep up?
- NetChai has an introductory course that starts from pronunciation (pinyin) — no prior Chinese knowledge needed. Beginners should choose a tutor fluent in Japanese. All tutors hold JLPT Level 2 or higher, but fluency varies. As a guideline, look for tutors who have lived in Japan for at least one year.
- Are there any communication costs during lessons?
- No communication costs. Teams is free to download and use.
