To ensure our tutors can teach with peace of mind, NetChai prohibits any conduct that constitutes sexual harassment. This applies not only to conversations during lessons, but also to messages and to conduct outside of lessons. Even if meant as a joke, please refrain from any words or behavior that a tutor may find sexually offensive.
Because of their position, tutors may find it difficult to tell students directly, “Please stop.” If a tutor changes the subject, please do not continue.
01Prohibited Conduct
1Clothing and What You Show on Camera
Please be fully clothed when taking lessons by video call. Taking lessons unclothed or in your underwear is prohibited.
Showing intimate parts of your body on camera, or showing or sending sexual images or videos via screen sharing or chat, is also prohibited.
2Sexual Remarks and Topics
Remarks such as the following constitute sexual harassment:
Commenting on a tutor’s body, appearance, or clothing in a sexual way
Asking about romantic or sexual experiences
Sexual jokes or teasing (so-called dirty jokes)
Talking about your own sexual experiences
Having the tutor read aloud or translate sexual content (such as adult novels) under the guise of conversation or reading practice
Steering the conversation back to sexual topics even after the tutor has changed the subject
* These examples apply the examples of “sexual speech and behavior” given in the guidelines of Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (such as asking about sexual matters, sexual jokes or teasing, and talking about personal sexual experiences) to online lessons.
3Unwanted Advances and Persistent Invitations
Repeatedly saying things like “Please go out with me,” “Please marry me,” or “I love you”
Repeatedly asking whether the tutor has a partner or plans to marry
Inviting the tutor out for a meal or on a date. This includes continuing to ask after being turned down.
Repeatedly complimenting the tutor’s looks, such as saying “You’re beautiful” or “You’re cute”
4Intruding on a Tutor’s Private Life
Asking the tutor to show their room, or to turn the camera to show their surroundings
Trying to obtain the tutor’s address, personal contact information, or social media accounts
Repeatedly sending messages or stickers about matters unrelated to lessons
Recording video of or photographing lessons. (Audio recording is permitted only for review purposes and only with the tutor’s prior consent.)
Trying to send gifts to the tutor, or trying to give the tutor money personally
5Meeting Tutors Outside of Lessons
You may not meet tutors in person. Even when visiting the area where a tutor lives on a trip or business, please do not invite the tutor to show you around, accompany you shopping, or join you for a meal.
We have also instructed our tutors not to meet students outside of lessons.
* Set out in Article 3 (Prohibited Acts), Paragraph 1, Items 8 and 12 of our Terms of Service.
02What Happens in the Event of a Violation
After confirming the situation with the tutor, our staff will make a decision and take the following action.
1WarningIf the conduct was unintentional and minor, we will contact you with a warning.
2ExpulsionIf the conduct was intentional or malicious, or continues after a warning, you will be expelled. Expelled members may not register again.
3Report to the PoliceIf the conduct is extremely malicious and clearly constitutes a criminal act, we may report it to the police.
* If an expelled member registers again under a different name or account, the registration will be cancelled as soon as it is discovered. Tuition fees already paid will not be refunded.
